Why Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar are both important signings for us this season.

First of all Arsenal don’t have depth in midfield. Apart from Xhaka, Elneny and Ceballos there’s no other experienced options. Torreira is on his way out, Guendouzi and Ozil look like they could leave too. Willock and Smith-Rowe are good prospect but are not players we can rely on for such a long season. They can be involved in Cup and Europa games and fill in when there’s major injuries.

Partey could be the midfielder we thought we were getting when we bought Torreira, we craved a Viera type of player for so many years. He will slot right in next to Xhaka. With Ceballos and Elneny as substitute options. He will be perfect for both the 3 and 4 at the back formations.

Aouar will play right in front of Xhaka and Partey in a back 4 formation with Ceballos as his substitute option. He is the perfect player to play when we are struggling to break teams down. Aouar can also play on either wing giving Arteta more options for his tactics.

Having those 5 midfielders will give us a lot of flexibility. There’s also good competition and a lot of experience and quality on the bench. All the other teams strength is in depth. If we go and add these 2 we will be able to match them at least for this season. Aouar will be our answer to Van De Beek and Havertz. Partey will be the engine of our midfield. Him and Xhaka could strike up one of the best midfield duos this season.

Another interesting point is if we fail to address that and one of Ceballos or Xhaka get a long term injury we will be in trouble because that will mean we have to rely on Elneny and the kids to step up. But if get those two in we will still have good options to carry us. Arsenal are still in the market and their focus is the midfield.
